Benson & Oak is a digital content agency that specializes in all things food, culture and people. But mostly food. And pasta, because when we aren't shooting we are making pasta.
We create content across all platforms and tailor our creative to meet your needs. From mouthwatering burger photos to original YouTube series featuring top chefs, we strive to make exciting content that challenges and engages audiences. We look at what you’re currently doing, what else is out there in the market… and then create something memorable, and hangry-able.
Kyla, has been struggling to write her bio for over 10 years…
In 2012, Kyla left behind a career in international public health to pursue a creative endeavour, this time behind the camera. Little did she know, she would find herself in the restaurant industry shooting delicious dishes and co-owning the food company Fidel Gastro’s and Toronto restaurant, Lisa Marie. Later, she would spend her time balancing restaurant life, working as a TV development producer for General Purpose Entertainment and shooting cookbooks (Street Food Diaries, SuperFresh, In the French Kitchen With Kids…).
In 2016, she opened food content studio KZ Creative, where she produced Youtube channels for personalities such as dietician & influencer Abbey Sharp and chef & host Matt Basile, and branded content for a growing list of happy clients.
Now the Benson & Oak studio is home to content creators, the growing team and generally, any hungry neighbours curious about what's cooking. Kyla can be often found making sugo, going over edits or writing an RFP.
Houston, a born and raised hospitality junky (raised in the back of her family-run Toronto institution, Dr. Generosity), has a long history in food and events management. With her start as an events coordinator for organizations such as the Toronto Underground Market, Uniq Lifestyle and George Brown College's Food Court Social, Houston went on to become Director of Operations at Fidel Gastro’s (Food Truck, restaurant Lisa Marie, Catering Division, etc). From there, she crossed the pond to join the Soho House Group in London, England working at both the Electric Diner and Shoreditch House locations.
But what really stole her heart was pasta. In 2016, she left the busy London life behind to apprentice at a family-run restaurant called FonteRomana located in the hills of Pacentro, Abruzzo. Much of her days were spent making ricotta and parsley filled ravioli for patrons and learning a handful of Italian swear words.
Houston currently works as Benson & Oak’s Culinary Producer, where she masters the schedule like boss and slays emails, all while hand rolling the most perfect cavatelli.
